Whitney VerMeer at Barbercon

Our new bestie recently took over our Instagram to cover her experience at Barbercon in NYC. We think getting to see events from all perspectives is so important, especially to show those who would like to follow those footsteps what kind of opportunities are available in this amazing industry we get to call home. A HUGE thank you to Whitney for her takeover and giving us a peek behind the curtain.     Recently I attended and performed for Barbercon in NYC at Terminal 5. Barbercon is one of the biggest barber expos in the world. For the set...

The Salon Chair Guys

We met The Salon Chair Guys at an event in San Diego, Ca and found their story to be one of authenticity and pure love of this industry on a level we never even thought about. How often to we buy salon chairs and don’t put 100% thought into “why that chair”, probably not too often. Hair Nerd Annie bought a chair from our friend Carleen Sanchez a few years back just because of the character and feel and stories behind it. These guys have taken those stories to a whole new level and we want all of you...

An open letter to the industry…

Dear Cosmo Students, newly licensed professionals and anyone who has ever in his or her life looked up to someone:    Your mentors WILL disappoint you. It’s inevitable.   I don’t say this to have you refrain from being mentored, looking up to someone or having those #HairHeros in your life, because lord knows I still have a few I keep in my back pocket. I say this to make sure you have a healthy outlook, not only on this industry, but also on life. Your mentors may not be just the people that teach you in school, or...

Tell us your life story in 2 sentences. My life is the life of a drunken toddle. I fall a lot, but I always get up smiling!   Why do you feel competitions help the industry? It provides as platform to be creative. Working behind the chair can get repetitive. Competition pushes limits, gives you space to be inspired while inspiring others. There’s also no better feeling than being recognized by you mentor, peers, and those you look up to the most.       How does your salon foster a culture of education and competition? My salon, the...

Who is your favorite Mascolo and why? Asking me to choose my favorite Mascolo is like asking someone what their favorite type of music is. Nearly impossible to answer. Having the pleasure of meeting Anthony, Bruno as well as Zak, I could honestly say I favor each of them for different reasons. I admire Anthony’s creative mind. Watching him work is like watching someone conduct a symphony. Bruno has the type of business mindset I have always admired. He is the definition of perseverance (don’t get me wrong-artistic talent is embedded into each minuscule cell that makes up this...
