Alecia Savage's journey from a middle school braider with a passion for art to a nominee in the Hairbrained Awards' braiding category is both inspiring and remarkable. Her early fascination with braid patterns, coupled with her formal training in cosmetology and art, has culminated in a unique stylistic approach that blends creativity with technical skill. Her experiences at Beau Monde Academy and Aveda Institute of Las Vegas not only honed her abilities across all hair textures but also ignited her interest in editorial and creative hairstyling.

This year marks Alecia's debut nomination at the Hairbrained Awards, an event that celebrates the artistry and innovation of hair professionals worldwide. Alecia's appreciation for the platform provided by Hairbrained reflects the growing recognition of hairstyling as a form of artistic expression. Her nomination not only highlights her talent in braiding but also underscores the importance of diverse hair styling techniques in the broader hairstyling community. As the Hairbrained Awards approach, Alecia Savage stands out as a testament to the evolving landscape of hair artistry, where tradition meets innovation.

Could you guide us through the journey of bringing your Hairbrained Awards video to life, from initial concept to final cut?

I knew I wanted to do something different. Instead of focusing on creating a specific hairstyle I allowed myself to freely create one section at time. I used braids, a flat twist, curls, and updo styling to bring my whole look together.

Could you share a memorable anecdote or behind-the-scenes story from the production of your nominated work that encapsulates the spirit of creativity and collaboration?

While I was creating my look I had a aha moment to add a encouraging element to my video. I didn't want my entry to be just about me creating a style, I wanted to inspire and encourage other stylists to step outside of their comfort zone.

How do you approach the process of selecting models or clients for your projects, and what factors do you consider to ensure inclusivity and diversity in your portfolio?

When I use models, I find them in facebook communities dedicated to models, hair stylists, MUAs, and photographers. I work with all hair so I select models based on the hair style and look I want to achieve.

Considering the evolving trends and preferences in the hair industry, how do you stay informed and inspired to continually innovate and adapt your craft?

Social media and magazines help me stay updated on the latest trends and keep me inspired. I love to learn and practice new hair styling techniques to challenge myself creatively and to stay sharp.

What message or advice would you like to share with your peers in the hairdressing community, especially those aspiring to be nominated for future Hairbrained Awards?

Don't compare your work to others stylists work. Always be confident in your unique creative style and who you are as an artist.

How can people find out more about you?

By joining my online communities where I teach live @aleciasavageeducation on Youtube, Instagram and TikTok.
