Our first show of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week SS14 was backstage for Carmen Marc Valvo with Ted Gibson and it definitely impressed. This was the Nerds very first Fashion Week experience and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect team to follow. After having met Ted Gibson at the Lisa Vann and Friends event last Spring our stalker tendencies have taken over.
Ted and Jason definitely piqued our interest by sharing this snapshot of what the hair would look like for the show. We were intrigued but when we actually saw the wigs on the models … well, our jaws dropped.
We loved that the hair was a bold statement piece rather than loose beach waves because it was so different than everything else coming down the runway.
Recreating the monochromatic theme of Carmen Marc Valvo’s Spring 2014 collection, Ted Gibson cut each wig into a perfect graduated bob with blunt bangs. The pieces were flat-ironed and set with Beautiful Hold Hairspray and kept smooth by using Ted Gibson Hairsheet Styling after blowing them out.
Beginning the day before at 9:30 am and ending well after midnight, the process of prepping 22 custom wigs was a major team effort. Each piece was lightened to a milky platinum blond and then given an ombre/dip dye treatment using L’oreal Professional Color. We secretly hope that Jason Backe made one of his awesome videos with color formulations and placement guides.
The NARS makeup team did final touches before the models hit the stage for showtime.
Pep talk as the models prepared to walk. Best advice of the morning “ Werrrrrk that stage”.
We are sometimes amazed at the social + digital world we live in. It is incredible how even across the we are all connected by instagram, facebook and twitter. While we wish everyone was able to come hang out backstage the connectivity of media allows anyone to have a glimpse into this not so secret world of fashion.
