Nina Tulio Hosted by MRK Beauty

When I left LA and moved to the Pacific Northwest, I resigned myself to the fact that I would now have to get on an airplane to attend the type of quality education I was surrounded by in California. Enter MRK Beauty. Founded in October 2013, MRK Beauty is dedicated to redefining professional beauty distribution for licensed beauty professionals in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana and are bringing big names and highly valuable education to the Spokane, Washington area.

I had the opportunity to spend the day with Nina Tulio, Business Education Ambassador for Oligo Professionnel and Sydney Harrison, Education Director of MRK Beauty and it was a beautifully-emotional Hair Nerd moment.

Hair Nerd Annie & Nina Tulio

Not only is Nina a true embodiment of someone living their life purpose, but they are an incredibly dynamic speaker, a safe space to share your truth and someone who is genuinely there to make your career better. The room was full of ah-ha moments from the get - and the tears…. oh man, not a dry eye to be found in the room. Maybe not what you expect when you sign up for a class about salon finances, but Nina was able to break things down into real, personal experiences and got to the root of your relationship with money. We’re not just talking about money behind the chair, but life.

Here’s a few of the ah-ha moments that happened:

  • Your client isn’t going to love or value you more because you give them free treatments or services - but they will continue to take advantage of your kindness and probably ask for more or larger discounts in the future.

  • If you’re in a small town, you actually have a bigger advantage to charge MORE! Offering an awesome overall experience is worth the time and money to them vs them having to drive somewhere farther to receive a luxe experience.

  • Make the booking process easy for the client and don’t be afraid to ask for feedback from new guests.

  • Just because you took some education doesn’t always mean you deserve a price increase. Also, if you haven’t raised your prices in 3 years… time for a bump.

  • DON’T FEEL GUILTY TO CHARGE YOUR CLIENTS FULL PRICE!

Go to the class. Enter the competition. Listen to the podcast (including ours!). Sometimes we unknowingly find ourselves in a rut and these Hair Nerd moments bring you out. Don't discount distributor education as just product knowledge classes designed to sell you shampoo. There are some incredible companies out there like MRK Beauty who are putting in the work to bring you career changing experiences.

Huge thanks to MRK Beauty for letting us hang out and check out some of their amazing distributor education coming into the inland northwest.
