HOUSE OF SASSOON RELEASE THEIR NEWEST COLLECTION “CITIZEN”

INSPIRATION

The newest collection from Vidal Sassoon takes the iconic methodology that the brand is world renowned for and heightens it to a new level. “What’s really important in this collection is that the techniques aren’t visible.” Says Mark Hayes, Vidal Sassoon International Creative Director. “They are designed to create hair that looks as if it has been caught in movement.” Continuing on the journey of creating looks that while they are contained within a collection, each one is individually tailored. It’s a bespoke approach to cutting and colouring. A way of stretching the skill of the artist to produce looks that have inherent beauty and a point of interest and newness but are always sympathetic and in tune with the wearer. The cutting techniques feature an array of looks that are all based on classic Sassoon Technique but include intricate details that make the hair move in cool ways, personalising the look to the wearer. The colours cover the complete spectrum, from light to dark, cool to warm geometric in the approach but effortlessly fluid in the result.

CUTTING TECHNIQUE

The cuts work on an extreme range of textures and lengths that start from a super short length to shoulder skimming layers through to super long extreme shapes. A classic short shake has elements of modernity by incorporating disconnected areas that allow for greater versatility. Gamine layering uses a trigon sectioning pattern to hug the head in a cool way. The signature Sassoon bob is cut classically then subverted into a brush inspired shape. Big natural curls have a gorgeous appeal. Mid length and longer shapes are based on the layered fall and one extreme length has geometric shapes placed around the face to mimic a feathered headpiece.

COLOUR TECHNIQUE

A kaleidoscope of colours feature throughout the collection but are subdued rather than loud, tonal as opposed to brash. Classic two tone shades combine in cool browns and oyster blondes to accentuate and give definition to a short layered shape. A Blue brown tone applied in geometric patterns gives depth and a new dynamic to a short gamine shape. Petrol on water effects are created with a unique curvy toned application, Deep blood reds are applied in large interconnected areas and subtle, caramel colour melt highlighting delineates the mid length layering. Zips of pure white and blocks of obsidian black frame the longest of the looks and complete the colour odyssey of the collection.
