Packing Tips for Hair Nerds headed off to a Hair Show Weekend.

Greetings, Nerds! Embarking on a weekend of inspiration, learning, and networking at a hair event? Whether you're a seasoned stylist or a budding cosmetology student, this guide is tailored to help you ace the art of packing for these exciting occasions. From navigating scissor regulations on planes to deciphering the perfect attire, we've got you covered. Get ready to pack your bags with confidence and style, as we unravel the secrets to a stress-free hair show getaway.

Packing Strategies: Remembering Everything You Need:

  1. Make a Checklist: Before you even start tossing things into your suitcase, jot down a list of all the essentials you'll need, from clothes and grooming tools to business cards and chargers.

  2. Plan Outfits: Plan your outfits for each day, including professional attire for the show and comfortable clothing for downtime. Mix and match to minimize the number of items you need to pack.

  3. Travel-Sized Toiletries: Opt for travel-sized versions of your favorite toiletries to save space. Consider sharing toiletries with roommates to avoid duplicating items.

  4. Business Essentials: Pack your business cards, a notepad, and a pen for taking notes during workshops and networking opportunities.

  5. Chargers and Power Banks: Keep your devices charged to stay connected and share your experiences. A power bank can be a lifesaver during busy days.

  6. Comfortable Shoes: You'll likely be on your feet for extended periods, so pack comfortable and supportive shoes that are stylish yet practical.

  7. Medications: Don't forget any prescription medications or essential health items you might need.

Can I Bring My Haircutting Scissors on the Plane?

Yes, you can bring your haircutting scissors in your carry-on luggage. However, to avoid any issues at security checkpoints, follow these guidelines:

  • Keep them in a scissor case to help protect them if they need to be removed at the security checkpoint.

  • TSA allows you to bring scissors on a plane both in your carry-on bag or in your checked baggage. However, if the blade is longer than 4 inches, you can only put it in your checked baggage.

  • Consider carrying a printout of the TSA guidelines on scissors and a copy of your Cosmetology License to show security if needed.

Of course, keep in mind that laws and regulations are constantly changing, so it’s important to double-check the TSA website before you travel to make sure that nothing has changed.

Their list of prohibited items is also helpful to determine what is and is not allowed in a carry-on bag or checked luggage.

Dress Code: Dressed Up or Casual?

Hair events often have a relaxed yet professional atmosphere. Here's how to strike the right balance:

  • Professional Attire: Aim for a polished and trendy look that reflects your passion for the industry. Smart casual outfits with clean lines are a safe bet.

  • Comfort: Don't sacrifice comfort for style. You'll be moving around a lot, so wear something that makes you feel confident and at ease.

  • Statement Piece: Consider incorporating a unique accessory or hairstyle that showcases your personality.

Attending a hair show is one of my personal favorite things as well as an incredible opportunity to learn, connect, and get inspired. By packing smartly, including your essential tools, and dressing comfortably stylish, you're setting the stage for a successful and enjoyable weekend. So, pack your bags, grab your scissors, and get ready to nurse that hair-show-hangover from all the fun you’re about to have!

Safe travels and happy hair nerding!
