Can you paint a picture of what your process looks like before ever starting to film a hair video? Do you have any interesting processes you go through before bringing to life a new video?

Before getting started on a hair video I always make sure I’m doing some thing within my niche to post on social media. I also take note on what the end result will be. I do a lot of hair education, so anything hair related can be a teachable subject. I also look at my schedule for the week to see what clients I can film whether it will be a fu ll transformation video, a short educational tip or trick, or even a before, and after still picture.

What has been the most challenging aspect of creating your nominated work, and how did you overcome it?

Honestly I think it’s what client is coming through the door related to your niche. I think every stylist knows what client will be good for filming and how impactful the end result will be! Also time management at the salon and Wheather you and the client will have extra time for filming and after shots. Also, the more your record yourself at the salon, the most easy it will become. Starting out, it took a while for me to see what position I needed My camera stand to be at, what sides of the head would best be filmed, and where I needed to place my camera stand for certain lighting. All of those takes time to figure out the more you do it the more easy it will become.

What are your thoughts on the impact of social media and digital platforms in shaping the careers of today's hairdressers and artists?

Social media is huge and it’s how I got started in my career and where I am today. They are a free platform, so why not utilize it to your full advantage, especially starting out in this industry.  In the beginning, it helped me build the clientele that I have now, help me promote my Hair education classes, and it also helped me connect and work with brands! The possibilities are endless on a social media platform.

How do you balance your creative pursuits and professional growth with the demands of the industry and your personal life?

Having the support of your family is definitely a huge plus, especially when I’m traveling with Moroccanoil.  I have 3 boys at home so I’m a taxi driver at night. Since my focus is on creating educational content, I do most filming in the salon or if I’m away at events working on models. I allow myself to make extra time when I know I’m going to be filming that day. I will then edit my content during my kids sporting practices or late at night when they go to bed. I think for me that is one of the most asked questions that I get. My answer is never make excuses and you have to make time if you want something bad enough.

What message or advice would you like to share with your peers in the hairdressing community, especially those aspiring to be nominated for future Hairbrained Awards?

Just post your content and put yourself out there. Make sure you have a good clear image or video with great lighting. See what your other competition is posting or what Hairbrained likes to post on their feed. Never copy someone but make it your own to your niche.  Also, if you’re not good at videography skills, take the time to even research on how to make a good video using your preferred app that you used to edit.
